Facial Paralysis

Cases

Are You Experiencing These Symptoms?

  • Difficulty moving one side of the face
  • Difficulty closing one eye
  • An uneven smile
  • Reduced sensation in the face
  • Diagnosed with facial nerve paralysis
  • Symptoms that have persisted for months

At our clinic, we believe facial paralysis is associated with changes in the Shaoyang meridian and paralysis of the Yangming meridian.

When treatment begins soon after onset, local acupuncture alone may improve symptoms within one or several treatments.

For chronic facial paralysis, however, recovery varies considerably from person to person and may require several months or even years.

In many cases, complete recovery is possible when treatment begins within six months after onset.

When more than six months have passed, we believe that changes have occurred in the affected cells, making complete recovery more difficult, although symptoms may still improve.

We also believe that paralysis is not limited to the face.

Although many patients are unaware of it, the affected side of the entire body is also involved.

For example, in left-sided facial paralysis, numbness of the skin and restricted joint movement may occur along the Shaoyang meridian throughout the left side of the body.

Patients may notice reduced skin sensation by comparing both sides of the body.

Reduced sensation may be present in the neck, shoulder, outer arm, abdomen, flank, buttock, and outer leg.

Joint movement may also become restricted in the shoulder, elbow, wrist, fingers, hip, knee, ankle, and toes.

For this reason, our treatment focuses not only on the face but also on the entire affected side of the body.
