Facial Spasms

Cases

Are You Experiencing Any of These Symptoms?

Twitching around the eyelid

Spasms involving the cheek or corner of the mouth

Recurrent facial spasms

Chronic facial spasms

Spasms that continue over a long period

In the early stage, when the symptoms are limited to mild twitching around the eyelid, recovery may be achieved within one to several treatments.

When the condition has become chronic, recovery generally takes longer.

Facial spasms tend to occur in a chain-like pattern.

For this reason, we carefully observe how the spasms occur.

Beneath the skin in the affected area, there is a line-shaped structure that acts as a trigger point.

It can be imagined as something similar to a piece of eraser debris about 1 millimeter thick.

This structure is found beneath the skin in the area where the spasms occur, such as over the cheekbone or the gums.

At our clinic, acupuncture is inserted accurately into this structure to elicit a slight responding sensation.

In Traditional East Asian Medicine, the face is considered to be governed by the Yangming Meridian, a meridian system associated with the face.

Treatment therefore focuses on the Yangming Meridian together with Heart Qi Deficiency and Qi Stagnation, a condition in which the Heart’s vital energy is weakened and its flow becomes impaired.

When the condition has become chronic, treatment also includes tonifying Kidney Qi, the vital energy associated with the Kidney in Traditional East Asian Medicine.
